Sourced product inspiration images A friend, and client, reached out to me to design the logo for their newest business. She and her husband already own a successful legging company, Legging Army, and were expanding into another retail venture. Their new business "The Beatnik Boardwalk" would be an online store with some pop-up events at local craft fairs. The Beatnik Boardwalk will sell gold-plated jewelry, hand-crafted soaps, honey, and other holistic items. The gold-plated jewelry is very unique and incorporates items including: hemp CBD leaves, small CBD flowers, coffee beans, shells, and beach themed charms. When we talked through their branding vision for their new company, they were clear that they wanted a fun, "hippie beach vibe" that was laid back and approachable. It was also important to them that the logo have a hand-crafted feel. They were also interested in exploring some graffiti style logos, as long as they maintained legibility. Before I began sketching any logos, I gathered inspiration images to share with my clients to see what they liked (or didn't like) as we began the design process. From this point, they communicated with me which elements and styles they preferred and I did some sketching. Once I had drawn several sketches using different lettering, graphic elements, and compositions, I began creating some concepts on the computer. For the graffiti concept, I spent some time looking at how the letterforms could work in color. After sharing the concepts with the client, they selected two that they preferred and we began the color study. Logo Option 1 Logo Option 2 Once colors were determined, the clients were still struggling to choose between the two logo designs. I created some mock-ups so that they could envision them in use. I find that this really helps to see the logo in a real world application. In this instance, I created a simple t-shirt and shopping bag for their mock-ups. Once the client saw the logos in these applications they knew that logo option 1 was their mark! So I present to you, the official logo of The Beatnik Boardwalk: I loved the process of creating this logo with another amazing client. It's a designer's dream to connect with someone who values the power of design and the impact it can have on their business' success. This was certainly the case on this project, and I am thrilled to see this logo applied to their new venture!
